Audio City Noire Empty Audio City Noire

Post by Dizzy Sat Aug 16, 2014 8:48 am

I was in a chat and randomly started listening to songs that give that "noir" feeling, and decided to just start writing stuff as if I were a private investigator and Audio City was this dark, gloomy, rainy place with tons of criminals and stuff. I started writing segments introducing people as characters in a noire setting, so here they are. If you want to write segments on your own characters, feel free to post more entries. If you want me to write more, let me know. If I haven't included you as a character and you want to be one, then let me know. Whatevs, we have fun here.

LANoire Soundtrack (Recommended listen while reading)

Nayami
"I need you to find her." ...That's what she said to me that night. A voice gentler than the waves steadily churning beneath Audio City, but with an emotion heavier than the most absurdly-named hurricane this sad excuse of a place could conjure up. Yuki was the name, Japanese characters for snow, or something. Only there wasn't any snow amidst the rain. It's always raining. Once or twice I'd thought the entire city would drown more in its misery than the tides, but today... It's another story. Maybe it was the tears she couldn't let slip in fear of weakness, on maybe she was so concerned about her dog that she couldn’t shed anymore. With a sigh, I put out my Cuban, exhaling clouds that still couldn't pervade the scent of her perfume. A face that had seen some life, but still gentle enough to melt the tar in my lungs, I couldn't get over the thought of a dame like that missing something sweet in her life. "Ms. Nayami... You can count on it."

Roro
Kid calls himself Roel. Accent on the "el," not like Joel. Heh. Gotta say, kid's got some spunk. Says he's got an interest in the business, you know, dealing with perps and the like. I tell him the streets are hard, harder than it hits a blue-collar when it comes downsize-time. I tell him the lone job's not his thing; he'd be better off sticking with the Badges. Kid insists he wants to go rogue. Rogue, ehn? Not in so many words, or so few, I guess. I think he's got some score to settle in the long run... Maybe that's what brings 'em along so often. I take a drag, so damn slow. Slower than usual. Maybe I'm thinking about it... He's got so much fire under his belt, I feel like he's relighting my Cuban each second. "Kid," I says to him. Only it's cut short. ...Can't believe it myself, I don't even know what to say. He looks so serious, so ready to start. Kid's got the makings of a gumshoe, that I'll give him. ...He really would be best off with the Badges, so why do I get this feeling he could bring some real justice to this Audio City? "...Get your coat, guess I'll show you around."

TemporaryButterfly
She's dead serious, the lights dimming in the room would give it away if not for her pout. That or I need to pay the electricity for this dump. I take a drag and muss out my hair a little, staring back at the pixie with the sun-scorched hair. Fiery like her personality, in other circumstances, that would probably get me down the street to pick up her laundry, but not now. Not when she wants me to sniff out the dirt on the highest of the high. A man like Dylan Collins isn't someone you just sniff dirt on, man's gotta be cleaner than my fridge right about now. Says she's a journalist. Says this is her last score and she'll settle down, maybe teach some kids. Says a lotta things but the words I wanna hear, starts with "never," middle word's "mind," and ends with me taking a deep drag until I pass out for the night. As I stretch in my chair, I can't help but notice the never-ending rain, if I could be just a single one of those drops without a care in the world... But then that'd leave the Kid alone to deliver some justice, can't say he's up to the task just yet... Heh. Looks like the rain's moving up from this angle... Maybe the same can be said for my luck. "Alright, Ms. Butterfly, I'll see what I can dig up."

It's dark, yeah, I get that. Darker even still with the moon ditching us, as usual. This town can't catch a break, myself even moreso. Can't even imagine how dark it must seem to her. They say "legally's" the case, but Iunno. Can't say I'm an egghead, but I know dark is darkest when you can't see. I sigh, must be the dust in the air making my voice so gravelly. I may be a little wet behind the ears, but why does it feel like I'm too old for this already? I look over at the picture the client gave me earlier. ...Jesus Christ, why'd they kidnap a dame like that? A thousand thoughts on why they would, enough reason to shake off the rain and push ahead. These guys couldn't be less original, a shed in the middle of nowhere to hold the ransom. Face like that, they'd better be calling in the big bucks. Steel colder than the night itself, I cock my Desert Eagle. A little excessive, but I'm not a Beat, and I sure as hell ain't taking any chances. Hold out, Valkyrie, you'll be back home soon.

Garnet
I walked back in the office to find a presence near the window. Legs easily help identify the silhouette. "Lady Garnet, don't you have someone else's arm to be dragging down with your problems?" She turns to me, one of my cubans between her fingers. I walk up and offer a light as she speaks, accent as rich as I remember. I often wonder how many times we were gonna do this, comes right in thinking she owns the place, takes one of my cubans, bats her lashes, offers a damn fine stack of money and I accept her case until I fiddle in my pockets, finding them emptier than an alleyway only in the daytime. "Well, he's off doing good for the city, dear." I grin. "Tch, guess if you're here, I'm the only one doing any real good for the city, whatever that accounts for." I walk over to the window, damn city's soaked in it. Rain, for sure, but even moreso the grit and grime. "Well, out with it, what's got you back my neck of the woods?" She takes a drag, exhales it softly, almost as soft as her speech. "Someone's left a message at my museum. I believe he intends to steal the diamond microphone in less than a week." Thievery. Phantoms. Call in to make the reservation, though we never get to see 'em check out. Only way to get 'em is by sniffing out who they are before the prize has been made. I let loose a sigh, maybe even more than I should have, but a day's pay's a day's pay. "...Audio City never sleeps," I reply. And neither do I.

Niipaan
She came to me with blue hair and a voice that would've stopped everything in Audio City in its tracks. Maybe even the rain. Says she needs protection. From what would a sweet little thing like her need protection? Normally I'd say I'm not surprised with the rats prowling about the streets, but whoever wants to dampen this little bit of sunshine has to be a real monster. I don't ask her, figure the monsters are easy enough to spot. Dame this bright in a city of shadow, it's a damn shame. Hell, I even feel embarrassed myself looking all rough in my coat, voice sounding like trash and feeling even worse. I try just this once to leave my filthy habit aside until she leaves. As we discuss the little details, she lets slip some information about her brother, Omega. Yeah, I remember the name. Head of Flash Industries, the massive electrical company for the city. She overheard some shady dealings going on out back, thinks she might've been made. Better safe than sorry, I guess. Can't tell if her brother knows or is in on it, so she'd rather keep him out of it. Can't tell the Badges anything, either. Don't you worry, little Nii, I'll keep the monsters away. Maybe a little sunshine's all Audio City needs to stop the rain.

Copper
On-the-job training. If training for a thing like this is worth anything. Kid’s got no complaints, that’s for sure. I let ‘im tag along, scope out a couple of my informants. Maybe show him a shakedown if things get rough. Nothing too rough, I hope. Haven’t even given the kid his gun yet. We arrive at the old Star Bar, ironic name for a house so sleazy. Old Man Copper runs the joint, keeps the ship as tight as he can, as rocky as it gets most nights. You could count the wrinkles on his forehead… There actually aren’t many at all. The man works hard, but he’s far from “old.” Even the Kid had his eyes open in surprise. A round of whiskey and a rum and coke for the Kid and we’re already off to a familiar start with Copper. His past years as a Badge clearly showed with the information he had given me time and time again, but this time his lips were tighter than a dirty cop’s mitts in a raid. I reminded him of the good times we had chasing down perps, seeing who’d get to ‘em fastest. Rogue versus Badge. No dice. Kid kept his mouth shut and his throat wet. He already knows the score, he’s no Boy Wonder, and that’s good. Keep him alive a bit longer in the streets. In the end, we finished our rounds and left the joint. Copper said he’d feed us fat any other guppies out there, but not when it comes to the big fish. We turn up dry this night on Dylan Collins. Wish I could say the same for the walk back.

Cassie
Hitting the pavement feels more natural than breathing these days. Gave the Kid his own case, hopefully he can handle it. Can’t say the coat helps as much as a nice umbrella would, but sometimes you gotta deal with the hand you’re dealt. And I’ve got a damn good poker face. Too bad my luck doesn’t always seem to wanna catch up most days. I left the casino in a huff, thought I could score a nice wallet-full for the night. If I could, maybe I’d have an umbrella. Then it hit me. Passing a corner I’d heard a voice, smokier than the dankest cigar I’d ever come across. “Hello there, stranger.” I hadn’t even turned around. I knew whatever accompanied that voice would make me forget about how cold and wet it was outside, and make me yearn for the warmth of a bed. Steeling myself stronger than the construction on the far side of town, I turned to the woman. She leaned against a wall under the awning of some supplies store, a pose screaming confidence, compelling even the most chaste man to come closer. “You’re even stranger still,” I reply, huddling under the awning next to her, digging into my coat for a Cuban. I pop it into my mouth, too eagerly. I had forgotten my lighter. She comes close, her face closer. I could smell her perfume as she whips out a lighter for me. The smell was intoxicating, almost as toxic as the smoke I drew in deeply. She gives a satisfied smile, illuminating the darkness around us. “My employer has come to understand you are in need of information, Mr. Dizzy.” Should’ve known. I’d probably even already guessed, even. Got my nose in too deep on this Phantom Thief case, I’ve already got hounds sniffing me out. They usually don’t send out a dame this totsy, though. I take in another drag. “My name is Cassandra. My employer, Mr. Xiang, seeks an audience with you. He’d be very happy to help you in your case.” I give her a concerned look, flicking my cigar off into the pitch blackness of the night. “What’s in it for him?” With a snide smile, something more effective than the blackest cup of coffee, she opens up an umbrella, motioning me to join her. “You’ll have to meet him to find out, darling.” Damn dame’s gonna be the death of me.

Axel
“And what brings you to me?” He says. The man hadn’t even turned around in his chair. Guards posted all over the damn place, I guess I wouldn’t need to, either. I could smell the man’s confidence even through the cologne he wore. Lithuanian Scientist, probably last decade’s smell, but still all sorts of classy. The man knew how to run a business, that’s for sure. Several of him. Axel Dawn, owner of practically all the nightclubs and gentleman’s clubs in Audio City. Gotta say, he knows how to set up decent service in some of them. “I hear you’re the man to see about a dog. A wolf-dog, maybe?” “Ah, yes,” he replies. “You must be asking about Yuki, Miss Nayami’s dog.” He turns around, head-to-toe, dressed so damn slick you couldn’t spread butter on him for the life of you. “Hm, hm, hm… Why, I say, Mr. Dizzy, you’ve come an awfully long way to inquire about something as lowly as a dog.” “A wolf-dog.” “Quite.” He opens a case, offering some of the finest imported cigars I couldn’t ever dream of being able to afford. I take him up on the offer, he lights, I inhale deeply. I choke, cough a bit on it. “It’s good. Too good.” He smokes one himself, reclining in his chair a bit. “You know, I like you, Mr. Dizzy. I’ve heard you’re one of my most frequent customers at my… Gentleman’s establishments. You bring in good business, well, good enough for their money, at least. Some of my subordinates have been dealing in various trades, and one of them might be Miss Nayami’s… Wolf-dog.” I finish my smoke as he explains, it’ll probably be the last high-quality smoke I ever get, knowing my line of work. Apparently Yuki ran off. Once they’re off-property, as far as Axel’s considered, they’re up for grabs. Up for grabs, they’re up for trade. Businessmen. I’d say they’re the real wolves out there. Looks like I’m off to intercept a trade… If I don’t drown in the rain first.

Axel's is so dastardly i love it XD I need to know the end of Nayami's story plz finish it!

I love all of these so much...you  are a mastermind, sir.  Love that you throw in all the AC references, and keep everyone in character while it still being all detective like. If you ever wanted to produce these I'd be down for mixing them XD great job!

If this isn't made into a mafia game of something, I will be highly disappoined. Is there nothing you can't do, Dizzy?
